Comparison of photosynthetic pigment and gas exchange parameters in laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) populations

Studies on the characterization and evaluation of plant genetic resources should be carried out in order to identify conserve laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) gene from medicinal aromatic plants commercial importance Turkey. This study was with aim determining photosynthetic characteristics containerized seedlings grown seeds collected Antalya, Muğla İzmir regions. Photosynthetic properties (net rate, transpiration, stomatal conductance, water use efficiency, chlorophyll a, b, total carotenoid) were determined three populations August October during first growing season following sowing. According results obtained, August, İzmir-Bayındır population had highest net conductance transpiration while Antalya-Manavgat lowest values. In October, Muğla-Gökova showed higher rate carotenoid than others. The differences between b contents found statistically insignificant. Based pigment gas exchange parameters, Muğla- Gökova most promising populations. These can assessed future breeding program laurel.
